LORNA JANE

I am absolutely loving the new Lorna Jane store in Gateway (ok, maybe not so new, but new for me because I haven’t been shopping since December). It’s for super star exercise wanna-bes like me. Just looking at the stuff on the hangars makes you feel all sexy, pumped up and ready for some serious exercise. But sexy in a super natural, good-girl kinda way. And then you see the price tag and your chest closes up. But only briefly because the sales lady has already convinced you to try everything on. Although not much convincing is needed.

I took the plunge the other day and bought something. Two things actually. I've never paid that much for a sportsbra so I got in a lot of trouble from my conscience; but it’s purple, and it’s pretty, and it’s padded. So I did it. And I love it. And I know it’s all in my mind but it really does make me feel faster. So it was worth every penny.

Check out their latest look Aussie book here.
Pop into the Gateway store for a tempting squizz at their gorgeous range.

PANTS!

I’ve had to miss hockey this week, due to bridesmaid and work commitments. And I’ve really missed it. Turns out I made the 2nd team. Also turns out there are only 2 teams. So I’m not half as bad as I thought, but I’m not half as good either.

Oh well. My next goal (er, excuse the pun) is to look as good on the astro as Mrs. Princess Catherine. I want her hair. I want her skill. I want her smile. And I’m not one to want so badly after other people’s things, particularly materialistic goodies, but dam … I want those pants!

Balls! Hockey Balls!

So. I started hockey!
Never picked up a hockey stick in my entire life and now, at 28, I feel the need to do so.  That was last week Wednesday. It’s almost a week later and I can’t even bend down to pick up a pencil let alone a hockey stick. Either I’m getting old really quickly, or I seriously under-estimated the power of the sport.

I’m hoping it’s the latter.
Got trials tomorrow to see if I can make a team. There are only 2 teams and not enough players for anyone to be left out of one, so my chances are pretty good – even for a beginner.

But to be fair to myself, I’m not totally crap.
I mean, I can zip up and down the field, or astro, or whatever they call it. It’s just making contact with the speeding ball that I’m battling with. And let’s be honest, no-one wants to pass the ball to a screaming newbie waving her stick in one hand and her fist in the other, tearing up and down the side of the field like the fat kid who never got picked first, screaming “I’m open I’m open, pick me!”

Perhaps it’s too much enthusiasm, too fast!

Nonetheless, my spirits are high. As are the levels of Deep Heat I’m applying each day. And … I bought my first ever piece of hockey paraphernalia to practice with.

It looks nothing like this.

The little sis, who happens to be a Natal Hockey Champion, was with me and she called me lame when I picked up a sparkly pink ball just like the one in the picture. So I just got a normal blue one. And then I went back the next day and bought a multi-coloured one with dimples. Now I can play with both my balls while I watch the Good Wife tonight.

I love cool greeting cards. No one ever really pays attention to them anymore. I personally never give them, and when you get one, you just chuck it. It’s such a pity. These ones by this guy are really cool.

YIPEE FOR YUPPIE

Hold me back … a box with my name and a Yuppiechef sticker arrived at my desk today!
It’s not often that I order stuff online, and if I do, it either doesn’t arrive, or it’s a gift for someone else. This time … the gift is to me, from me! YAY! Will reveal it’s contents tomorrow!

p.s I have reinstated my debit order of $15 a month to the invisible Children Organisation and have since made friends with a fabulous human being who is heavily involved in charity and community work and I intend on becoming the best of friends with afore mentioned human being, so that I can become a better one!

KONY 2012

So you’ve all seen the KONY 2012 video by now, right?
If you haven’t, here it the link if you have 30 minutes to spare – which I recommend you do.

Yesterday was my turn to watch it. And of course I cried, and sat through the whole thing, and felt incredibly moved and motivated by the end of it. I mean, who wouldn’t.

Well, lots of people actually. Within seconds of posting the link on my facebook page and making a comment about how I’d donated $15 towards the cause - I mean what’s that? Less than R120! – I was bombarded with anti-KONY 2012 comments and links and people wanting to facebook chat with me about the joke and pretentiousness (I quote) of it all. There was so much banter, and after reading a couple of unpleasant articles, I actually deleted my post and deleted my monthly debit order to the Invisble Children Organisation.

I’m totally pissed off with myself.
I stumbled upon a cause, a good one, and I finally had a chance to help in a tiny way by giving some money and ordering a KONY 2012 Kit to use to promote the cause, and then I let the cynicism of some fools change my mind about it all. Totally pissed off.

I don’t care what you think of KONY 2012. I don’t ever recall asking your opinion anyway, so don’t give it to me please. Negativity and general crapness are not welcome here.

The cause is working. Yeah, it helps that they’ve got amazing backing from all sorts of places and people, an insanely hot hollywood-esque video, fancy headquarters and a gigantic team of hippie looking American youth pushing for more … and even though all the information isn't entirely on target - like the fact that KONY is no longer in Uganda, and hasn't been for over 6 years now.
But ...  it’s working.
We're talking!
